Glossary/10DLC

    What is 10DLC?

10DLC (10-digit long code) is the US carrier framework for sanctioned application-to-person (A2P) SMS sent from standard 10-digit phone numbers, requiring brand and campaign registration so carriers can deliver business messages reliably and at scale.

    Why does 10DLC exist?

Before 10DLC, businesses sent A2P SMS from regular long codes that were designed for person-to-person texting. Carriers couldn't tell legitimate business traffic from spam, so deliverability suffered and carriers throttled or blocked unregistered traffic.

10DLC introduced a registration model: every brand registers its identity, every messaging use case is registered as a campaign, and carriers grant throughput and trust accordingly. The result is reliable delivery for compliant senders.

Who needs to register for 10DLC?

Any business sending application-to-person SMS to US recipients from a 10-digit number needs to register. This includes lead follow-up, appointment reminders, transactional notifications, marketing, and two-way customer conversations.

Registration involves The Campaign Registry (TCR) — a brand record (your company) plus one or more campaigns (use cases). Carriers use these records to set throughput limits and validate consent practices.

    How does TextConvo handle 10DLC?

TextConvo manages brand and campaign registration as part of onboarding — you provide the business details, we handle TCR submission and ongoing carrier relationships. Consent capture, opt-out handling and audit logs are built into every conversation.
